Tesla Model S: Electric-Powered and Faster than Porsche 911

The Tesla Model S electric-powered sedan is scheduled for release next year. According to numerous reports, the Model S reportedly can accelerate to 60 mph from a standstill in 4.5 seconds, two-tenths of a second quicker than the 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera with a manual transmission.

Tesla boss Elon Musk has said that during the weekend event when the Tesla Model S will be released, the company will also sell a higher-performance version of the car.

The Tesla Model S is expected to run with the Porsche, Chevrolet Corvette, Audi R8 and other muscular sports cars. It will also establish electric power as a performance feature, not just an eco-friendly gas-saving one. According to the Wall Street Journal, the basic version of the Model S can go from 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds.

The 2013 model will roll out next year with prices beginning at $50,000. The Model S will have a range of up to 300 miles, depending on which battery option you choose.
