Haute 100 Update: Eastwood’s ‘J. Edgar’ to Premiere at AFI Festival on Nov. 3

Film icon Clint Eastwood’s highly anticipated new biopic, J. Edgar, has finally secured a date and location for its premiere. The film – based on the life of legendary FBI founder J. Edgar Hoover, played by Leonardo DiCaprio – will make its debut on Thursday, Nov. 3 during the AFI Festival in Hollywood, occurring less than a week before its limited theatrical release on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Eastwood reportedly turned down the opportunity to release the film at Venice, Telluride, and Toronto in favor of the AFI Festival. Some see this as a calculated Oscar move, seeing as how AFI occurs at the end of the year and at the start of awards season. Either way, the absolute buzz surrounding the film and its all-star cast have the film primed for awards regardless.
