Upscale HD Men’s Network Velocity to Debut October 4

Discovery Communications has announced an all-HD network targeting upscale men called Velocity will debut on October 4 at 7 p.m.

The network’s lineup for the fourth quarter of 2011 will feature an all-new primetime schedule with more than 140 original hours representing the best of travel, leisure, automotive, adventure and sports genres. Velocity will be available in more than 40 million homes on the channel currently occupied by the HD Theater cable network.

In addition, NFL Films, Velocity and Intersport have joined forces to create all-new, original franchises, NFL Single Coverage and Greatest NFL Rivalries, which will each capture the intensity, passion and competition of the NFL. President and CEO of Discovery Communication, David Zaslav, said, “As evidenced by its relationships with blue-chip partners like the NFL, Velocity taps into a premium male demographic and connects with them at their passion points.”

Velocity will also be airing new seasons of some of TV’s most popular vehicle programming, including Inside West Coast Customs, Mecum Auto Auctions, Chasing Classic Cars and Extreme Fishing. Bob Scanlon, senior vice president of Velocity said, “Velocity will be the go-to destination for the upscale male demographic. Beginning in October, the network will offer programming that is diverse, character-driven, dramatic and engaging. From the vintage-cool look of the brand, to our broad content genres, to our industry-best HD production standards, Velocity will stand out both for its style and its substance.”

For the October 4 debut, a special lineup will include all-new episodes of Motorweek (7 p.m.), American Icon with Chip Foose (8 p.m.), What’s My Car Worth (8:30 p.m.), Chasing Classic Cars (9 p.m.) and Inside West Coast Customs (10 p.m.).
