Fashion for Compassion: An Evening of Runway and Heart Honoring Renowned South Asian Designer Ranjana Khan

Monday Night I attended an exclusive event at the  Ritz Carlton at Battery Park. Honoring iconic jewelry and accessories designer Ranjana Khan (designer for First Lady Michelle Obama), the fashion show showcased the talents of other South Asian designer labels such as Pria Kataaria Puri, Amrita Singh, Atelier Azza, and Rani Emaan.

Presented by South Asian Young Women Entrepreneurs (SAY WE), in association with Saavn.com and media sponsor Divanee Magazine. The event  raised funds and awareness for Wishwas (means “faith” in Hindi), an organization that helps empower underprivileged South Asian women through entrepreneurship right here in NYC

There were many notables there to support such a great cause, from Janina Gavankar (True Blood), Abhay Deol, Shenaz Treasurywala  Ayesha Giliani (Ms Pakistan) to name a few. The runway was beaming with models wearing designs that can be described as ” minimalist high street fused with high fashion”. All reflecting the beauty of the designers Indian background. Rich color palettes mixed with beautiful silhouettes, I was transported back to when I was very young and my Aunty bought my cousins and I the most gorgeous sari’s from their trips to India.  It was a night of gorgeous fashion for a great cause. I hope you enjoy my photo-diary.
