Baker Furniture Kicks off La Cienega Design Quarter’s Legends: Celebrate Art

Los Angeles’ premiere design district La Cienega Design Quarter (LCDQ) kicked off Legends of La Cienga: Celebrate Art on May 13th, beginning two days of receptions, cocktail parties, guest speakers, and other special events. The annual celebration “brings together VIPs and tastemakers from the worlds of interior design, décor, art, fashion, and architecture.” Editor-in-Chief of House Beautiful, Newell Turner, hosted the Legends breakfast at Baker Furniture, catered by Michelle & Co. The breakfast featured a book signing of “House Beautiful BLUE: 350 Inspiring Ways to Decorate with Blue.”

A main draw was Legends designer Kristin Collins’ window display, inspired by 1950s “Surf Artist” Ned Evans. “The physicality of surfing and the immersion in the medium translate into what happens in the studio. It’s not conscious—it happens for me. I like to immerse myself in the process of painting and the liquidity of the paint. Everything’s done wet on wet, and it carries right over into a similar sensation when you’re surfing. In other words, it’s about getting lost, losing the gravitational pull, or at least suspending it all for a moment.”
