Eve Performs Concert on NYC Rooftop, Speaks Exclusively to Haute Living

Last night, I sat down with Grammy Award winning artist Eve before her New York rooftop performance for Gotham Organization’s 4th Annual OPEN A.I.R: Artist in Residence Summer Concert Series benefitting the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC).

It’s been nine years since your last album, what have you been up to?

I have been traveling a lot and I perform all the time. I am always in a different continent or country. My new album [called “Lip Lock”] is dropping next year but there have been some complications with the record which is why it took so long to come together. I have been spending a lot of time tweaking the record and excited for it. I also just relaunched my website Eve-360.com.

Why did you name the record “Lip Lock?”

I am lyrically locking the game back down with my music.

Swizz Beatz, who is on the cover of the New York Haute Living September issue recently collaborated with you for the first single on his Haute Living album. What was it like working with Swizz?

We started [our careers] together so he is more than just a friend- he is more like my musical brother. It was fun because we are so used to each other at this point. Any time we come together its the most fun, energetic session and just easy. He’s great. I’m sure you had the best time shooting him.

How do you like spending time in New York? You recently shared your insider’s guide to the city with us- what would you say is the hautest spot in New York right now?

I love the energy in New York. I wind up at the same places all the time but the Darby is so good!

What about the hautest spot around the world?

For me, it’s still V.I.P. in St. Tropez. It’s just always a good time. You go there knowing your going to party and have the best time.

Fashion Week is almost here. What is the hautest item you are coveting for fall?

Oh that’s a great question but hard to answer. I am a shoes and bag kind of girl. I really want a big crocodile tote.

You must be excited for tonight’s performance. What made you team up with the Gotham Organization’s summer concert series in support of the National Breast Cancer Coalition?

I am excited! My grandmother is a breast cancer survivor so it’s a subject that  is very close to my heart.

After our interview, I joined 200 guests on the rooftop for cocktails and Eve’s exclusive musical performance.

With the Empire State building on the right and the Chrysler to the left, the views were spectacular and the crowd couldn’t stop dancing to Eve’s set. The Gotham Organization, A leading NY visionary real estate development company brought their annual summer music series to New York City’s rooftops for the fourth summer in a row. This year, the concert series is benefitting the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) and will feature major and indie label artists playing on the rooftop of their 47-story Atlas New York rental building, located in Midtown Manhattan at West 38th Street and 6th Avenue, where live musical acts will perform weekly. Past performers included Grammy winning pop icon Lady Gaga and reggae artist Mishka.

Since 1991, NBCC has been at the vanguard of the breast cancer movement, elevating breast cancer to an issue of national significance. NBCC’s new campaign, Breast Cancer Deadline 2020, is a watershed event in the history of breast cancer that will lead to the end of the disease by the end of the decade. NBCC challenges researchers, policymakers, scientists and advocates to address breast cancer in new ways and to work collaboratively to develop strategic plans that will have a significant impact on prevention and on saving lives.

Set to release her new album “Lip Lock” in 2012, Eve’s set streamed live on her recently launched website.
