$250,000 Rembrandt Drawing Stolen

A valuable Rembrandt drawing was stolen from a hotel in Southern California and police are indicating it appears to have been a well-planned heist.

The drawing is said to be worth around $250,000 and is a pen-and-ink drawing called “The Judgment”. It was stolen on Saturday evening while a guest at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Marina del Rey, Los Angeles, distracted a curator. Detectives believe that the well-thought-out and well-executed theft took around 15 minutes starting at 10:20 p.m.

While the footage is unlikely to ever be made public, the investigators on the case are studying surveillance video from the hotel to determine if that will provide them with any additional insight into the crime. Anyone who may have any information is urged to call the sheriff’s department.

“The Judgment” was part of an exhibit at the hotel sponsored by San Francisco’s Linearis Institute.
