Haute 100 Update: Woody Allen and Star-Studded Cast Start Filming ‘The Bop Decameron’ in Rome

Film legend and Haute 100 New York member Woody Allen has been recently spotted out and about while filming his new movie – but he’s not in New York this time. The face behind those famous thick-rimmed glasses has been popping up – along with his all-star cast – around Rome’s famous tourist sites, where his new film The Bop Decameron is being filmed.

The new project is set to release in 2012 and it is the first film Allen is shooting in Rome. It is also his first film to be financed by Italian production and distribution company Medusa Film.

The Bop Decameron is a romantic comedy based on Decameron, a well-known collection of bawdy 14th century tales by Italian poet Giovanni Boccaccio. Allen has arranged the film so that it features four intertwining Italian tales – one that stars Mr. Allen himself. Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig, and Ellen Page join Allen on the impressive cast list.

Although the film only started with production on July 11, the cast has been seen nearly everywhere in Rome, including the Spanish Steps, the Colosseum, Via del Corso, the French embassy and – as an homage to Italian film master Federico Fellini – Allen has also been filming on Via Veneto, the main location of Fellini’s classic La Dolce Vita.
