Summer is coming on full force and the city is heating up. We get it. But for some of us, a quick fix is more convenient and more appealing than arranging travel to the Hamptons or enduring the unbearable traffic on the Montauk Highway. Thankfully, New York City’s rooftop pools are open for the season, and new hot spots to cool down are popping up every week.

By now, many are familiar with the exclusive, celebrity-heavy, membership-only SoHo House, with its upscale country club atmosphere and beautiful views of the city. But for those looking for a different rooftop experience, New York has a wide variety of fun and luxurious pools that keep out the crowds.

Come to the chic Gansevoort Hotel for some daytime sunning, float in their 45-foot pool to some underwater music, and enjoy cocktails while watching the scenic sunset over the Hudson. For equal luxury with a different ambiance, try the Thompson Hotel LES rooftop pool and deck, complete with an Andy Warhol filmstrip photolithographed onto the tile bottom.

Have some fun in the giant, barside hot tub at Le Bain and enjoy its panoramic views of the city. Space is limited at their nightlife events featuring talents such as Soft Rocks and renowned international DJs.

And that’s the closest New York City gets to having a beach…until now. Introducing Dream Downtown, a hotel in the Meatpacking District with the city’s first rooftop beach. Although it does not officially open until June 10, an exclusive soft opening has allowed a select few to try out this unique urban oasis before goes public. The Saint-Tropez themed beach deck features a bamboo-shaded, sand-covered shore of the glass-bottom pool. Relax by the bar or under a cabana with a piña colada and dig your toes into the imported white sand. At last, the Hamptons have come to us!
