Haute Dining: The Foyer at Claridge’s Wins Esteemed Tea Guild Top Afternoon Tea Award

Londoners know their tea, and the city’s luxurious Claridge’s Hotel has received the Tea Guild’s esteemed Top London Afternoon Tea 2011 Award. For 26 years, the Tea Guild event has been considered the Oscars of the tea world, and Claridge’s has surpassed numbers of London hotels and tearooms to win the coveted title. Thomas Kochs, general manager of Claridges, commented, “As a proud member of The Tea Guild we are delighted and honored to receive this hugely prestigious award.”

The members of the Tea Guild have long been regarded as the top in their game. In considering their awardees, experts anonymously take tea in London and across Britain in search of the finest afternoon tea experience. The venues under consideration are then awarded for their variety, flavor, and knowledge of their tea selection, along with the overall quality of food, service, décor, ambiance, and presentation.

Claridge’s The Foyer tearoom came out on top this year after it achieved a nearly perfect score from the guild’s inspectors. Their exquisite afternoon tea features a selection of over 30 fine teas and sumptuous English fare – including delectable finger sandwiches, an array of fresh-baked sweet pastries, and their famed raisin and apple scones with tea-infused jam and decadent Devonshire clotted cream.
