Audemars Piguet Goes Green for This Year’s 65th Annual Tony Awards

Revered Swiss timepiece brand Audemars Piguet has announced an exciting new venture for their third year as the official red carpet sponsor for the 65th Annual Tony Awards on Sunday, June 12. Through a unique collaboration with conservation brand Patagonia Sur, the partnering brands will create the renowned award show’s first eco-friendly Green Room, where Tony Awards VIPs will lounge amidst eco-friendly décor while the room’s sponsors support continual environmental efforts.

Patagonia Sur’s native species reforestation project will plant 300 trees over a half acre of land in the Audemars Piguet Forest in the Patagonia region of Chile. By doing so, they will be off-setting the carbon footprint made by their innovative Green Room in addition to the carbon emissions made by each of the approximately 100 awards presenters and nominees’ airplane flights. The new trees to be planted are to become part of the 14-acre, 7,500-tree Audemars Piguet-sponsored forest – itself a part of over 800 acres of Patagonia Sur’s Reforestation and Biodiversity Project.

The Green Room will also be using eco-friendly décor, such as seagrass carpeting woven from natural fibers that have remained untreated with toxic chemicals, a zero-toxin aubergine paint job, and the use of compact fluorescent bulbs and energy-efficient LED screens. The room will also showcase Audemars Piguet’s stunning collection of men’s and women’s timepieces.

President and CEO of Audemars Piguet, Francois-Henry Bennahmias, says of the exciting new project, “We are thrilled to continue our relationship with the Tony Awards. The Green Room collaboration with Patagonia Sur at the Tony Awards highlights the importance of protecting our forests and reducing our carbon footprint in simple yet affective ways. It is also another cornerstone in the company’s commitment to far-reaching projects.”
