On Thursday, May 19, the Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) will be hosting A Flare for Design to benefit the Southeast Florida Chapter of The Lupus Foundation of America. The event will bring together leaders in design, socialites, celebrities, and business professionals for a showcase of the latest in all realms of design – including Haute Living, Alice & Olivia, Casswell Massey, Escada, Audi, Trina Turk, and many more – for this very important cause.
Estimations show that approximately 80 percent of the public knows little or nothing about lupus, a chronic and potentially fatal autoimmune disorder that affects approximately 1.5 million people. The unprecedented evening will feature the latest interior design trends, a fashion show of national luxury fashion brands, and a silent auction to raise funds, which will directly benefit The Lupus Foundation of America.
Jenny Wilensky, founder of istylie.com, created A Flare for Design in an effort to raise much-needed funds and to further educated the public about lupus. She comments, “My mother fought for 35 years while living with Lupus and never did she once complain about what she went through. I never knew how Lupus had affected her until now. Since her passing in June 2010, due to complications of Lupus, I have made it my passion to spread awareness and really make a difference within the community. My ultimate goal is to draw awareness to help fight, treat and cure this debilitating disease.”
The event will begin at 7 p.m. with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction. After the 8 p.m. fashion show, guests will enjoy special performance by Reese Bridges of the Grammy Award-winning band Dirty Vegas, with the event concluding at 10 p.m. Ticket prices start at $75, with proceeds directly benefiting The Lupus Foundation of American, Southeast Florida Chapter.
