In a city with a long history of beers and ales, cocktails are not a drink readily associated with London. Yet, while the last few years have seen a huge number of new cocktail bars opening in the capital, London has in fact always had some of the best locations for sipping cocktails in the world. 1 American Bar, The Savoy
Legendary bartender Harry Craddock’s classic cocktails are still served in the newly renovated American Bar. One of the world’s great hotel bars, the American Bar has retained a style fitting of the 1920s golden age of cocktails. Indeed once stood at the electric blue and gold glinted bar, classic American jazz playing in the background, and drink in hand, there may be no other more historically elegant place to sip your favorite cocktail in London.

Located at celebrity chef Jun Tanaka’s Pearl, The Bar is as expansively elegant and glamorous as the rest of the restaurant. The cocktail menu includes the Mulata Daiquiri; a blending of Havana Club 7 Años with Heering coffee liqueur and lemon juice, as well as the Wasabi Boost; a surprising bright green mix of wasabi, sake, belvedere vodka, and melon liqueur.

3 Claridges Bar
The pristine bar at Claridges never fails to disappoint in service and effortless elegance. Every evening this vibrant bar is host to Mayfair’s most glamorous and best connected. 4 The Blue Bar, The Berkeley
Another of London’s grand dames, and yet The Berkeley offers one of the funkiest of bars to sip cocktails. With a sleek white onyx bar and black crocodile print leather floor, you would even be forgiven for thinking you were in New York itself. Head barman Flavio Carenzi has whipped up a truly inspiring array of cocktails for this haute couture of drinking stations. The Truffle martini is a popular choice while if you prefer your cocktails fruity then the Grape Smash made with Ciroc, white, and green grapes, vanilla sugar, and Bollinger is a delight. When you fancy a change from the cocktails there is also a £4,200 bottle of champagne or a £925 shot of whisky (Macallan 55-year-old).

5 Dorchester Bar, The Dorchester
Expert alchemist Giuliano Morandin, leads his team to create award-winning cocktails in the opulent surroundings of The Dorchester Bar. Established as one of the places in the capital to see and be seen, The Bar at The Dorchester is renowned as much for its vibrant interior as for its menu of new and classic cocktails. The long, sexy, curved bar boasts one of the finest selections of Martini’s. A great way to start is with the Genesis of the Martini, a sampling set which give three different variations of Martinis as they have been popular through the through the years.
