Bonhams First Sale Dedicated to Photographs in Dubai

Tonight marks Bonham’s first dedicated photographs sale alongside its annual Orientalist Art Auction at the One and Only Royal Mirage in Dubai.

The sale will feature photographs by some of the world’s most renowned names including award-winning Palestinian artist Steve Sabella with a few of his works bringing in a pre-sale estimate of up to $18,000. Other photographic works include those by Lebanese-born Camille Zakharia, Brazilian social-documentary artist and photojournalist Sebastiao Salgado and renowned American painter and photographer Lillian Bassman.

The Middle Eastern market is still emerging in its appreciation for photographic works. Nonetheless interest is growing and the works at this sale will assist in the understanding of photography as a major art form.

L' Arabe et son cheval (1903) by Etienne Dinet

The Orientalist sale features works by esteemed European and American artists from the 19th and 20th century. One of the highlights of this sale is a work Etienne Dinet entitled “L’Arabe et son cheval” which is estimated at $150,000.
