Haute Jewelry Obsession: Atlanta-Based Designer Amy Bubes

Very few items in my wardrobe, or any woman’s, withstand all of life’s changes the way that a great piece of jewelry does. Shoes wear out eventually and handbags go in and out of fashion, but jewelry stays the same. With that in mind, and my constant need to update some part of my closet, I had to check out Amy Bubes’ collection of handcrafted silver pieces the second I heard about it.

Since launching her eponymous collection almost two years ago, Atlanta-based jewelry designer Amy Bubes has gained a loyal following from New York to Miami with her distinctive designs and the use of superior metals. Beginning with a simple stack of sleekly modern bangles, Bubes has translated her innate sense of creativity and belief that jewelry should be timeless into everything from earrings, necklaces and cuffs to rings and charms. Each completely original piece is handcrafted by Bubes herself from sterling silver’s superior cousin, Argentium Sterling Silver, which has a higher tarnish resistance and is more eco-friendly than traditional sterling. If you are more of a fan of gold than silver, Bubes does plan on eventually expanding her collection to cover gold items however with the price of gold at an all time high, don’t look for a gold Amy Bubes piece in the coming months. Although I am sure she would custom make a one of a kind gold piece for you, if you are willing to pay the price.

As someone whose jewelry tastes range from organically modern to tough pieces that incorporate leather and studs, the best part of Bubes’ collection is that everything can be mixed and matched with other pieces to tailor to your unique aesthetic. According to Bubes, “I want women to mix my jewelry with much loved pieces from their past. My pieces are timeless; they can make a statement on their own or enhance an existing collection.” So whether you decide to mix one of her signature bangles with a cuff and a python print wrap bracelet or wear her Stepping Stone cuff (pictured) all on its own, you are sure to have a one-of-a-kind look. With all of her bracelets available in different sizes to fit even the slightest hands and wrists and earrings that are so light you almost forget you are wearing them, there is practically something for every woman no matter her style or size.

Amy Bubes Jewelry can be found at Tassels and Beth Ann’s in Atlanta’s Buckhead area, Fragments in SoHo in New York, A MANO Ltd in Washington D.C. and by appointment only at Phillips Frankel Private Showroom in Miami.
