Musical Mash Up: Rock of Ages at SCFTA

If you think Broadway is all about show tunes, spangles and sentimental sap, there’s a new kid on the block for you: Rock of Ages. Bringing the music of Journey, Styx, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi and more to the stage — not to mention Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis of American Idol fame. Trust us, it’s not your normal night out to the theatre.

The first tour of the Broadway hit brings together the 80’s rock that you already know and love and brings them together in the story of a small-town girl and a boy with big dreams. Set in Los Angeles, the songs make up the soundtrack to a love story told with big hair, big voices and even more heart from the cast. Critics say the role was made for Maroulis and the cast will take all your favorite songs and make them even bigger and bolder than before. You’ll have to resist singing along to the story of romance, humor and glory, but we’re sure nobody will mind — after all, these 80s anthems were meant to be belted out.

The Segerstrom Center for the Arts is located at 600 Town Center Dr., in Costa Mesa.
