Ask any English person what a slider is and expect blank stares. Ask for mini-burgers and you might be on to something. Still, while the name is new in London, the concept is great. Tiny little burgers to nibble as you drink. We might know them as starters, nibbles, canapés, tapas or simply mini-burgers but whatever, we just want to know where to get them. Now that she knows what they are, Marie Teather searches out the top five sliders in London.
1 La Cuisine de Joël Robuchon
Dining at La Cuisine de Joël Robuchon is like eating in the kitchen of an old friend; albeit a friend with impeccable taste. Here, seating is traditional with well-spaced tables allowing patrons to observe their food being prepared in the open-plan kitchen with its wood-fired oven. From the ‘Le Burger’ from the small tasting dishes menu expect a burger of beef and foie gras with slightly caramelised bell peppers. Make this your introduction to sliders.
2 St Martins Lane Hotel
Just the ticket for late-night munchies, the three mini wagyu sliders at St Martins Lane Hotel are some of the finest sliders in the city. The pampered Wagyu cows, bred for the unique marbled texture of their meat, are fed on prize corn and beer for a unique, melt-in-the-mouth flavour — and it makes a darned fine selection of burgers.

3 Opera Tavern
Set over two floors in a former pub, Opera Tavern serves charcuterie, cheese and Italian and Spanish tapas, as well as a wide range of wines and sherries. A charcoal grill in the bar allows locals and theatre-goers to pop in for the juicest mini Iberico pork burgers.
23 Catherine Street, WC2B 5JS
4 Amuse Bouche
With a branch in Soho and one in Fulham, Amuse Bouche Champagne
Bars offer over 40 Champagnes by the bottle and more than 10 by the glass. The canapé style food menus are designed to be nibbles, shared and passed around friend and on the baby burgers you can expect a selection of beef, chicken or tuna burgers served with fries.
21-22 Poland St, London W1F 8QG.
5 Planet Hollywood
It wouldn’t be my usual preference for eating out but until London’s menus feature a few more sliders it’s worth heading to an American chain institution: Planet Hollywood. The beef sliders option features three mini beef burgers topped with cheddar cheese, shaved tomato, cucumber and caramelized onions served on a sweet bun. A classic place to show the UK's capital how sliders are done.
