In the fashion world, many companies and design houses are scrambling to get their spring and summer collections to the boutiques and major department stores worldwide. While the weather in New York, Boston, London, and Paris to name a few is still incredibly frigid, the weather in South Florida is starting to heat up again. The wind is blowing and the sun is definitely starting to shine! So it was perfect for Nordstrom Aventura to showcase their haute collections for spring 2011.
The event took place in beautiful Aventura, Florida on Saturday Jan. 29. The event was hosted by Gregg Andrews, Fashion Director for Nordstrom. The event featured a lovely cocktail reception and social hour, with champagne, sangria, and hors d’oeuvres, followed by an amazing fashion show with Eurepean designs from the runways of Paris, Milan, and London. Some of the designers that were showcased were Italian designer Emilio Pucci, Roberto Cavalli, Stella McCartney, Missoni, and Dolce & Gabbana.
This season it was all about bright colors, comfort, and functionality. To me, there’s nothing like a bright color for raising the spirits and a soft, shimmering fabric that catches the light and bounces off the skin. It was obvious to see that designers were creating pieces for women to relax and let their hair down, but not to forget that it was still important to mix business with pleasure. This show reflected just that. There was an immediate feeling of spring, the ocean, and warm weather as I watched the models sashay and twirl down the runway in long summer dresses, tunics, sandals, bathing suits, and lightweight jackets.
The show was followed by invites and special guests given the opportunity to shop the collections first and pre-order any design they desired from the collections. Eric Christian Style Concierge of Miami was there to give style recommendations and tips to his clients on the basis on when and how to wear and accessorize their looks. The show turned out to be another haute event and Miami has a lot of great fashion coming its way!
