Haute Dining: Tavern Los Angeles

Tavern, the third restaurant of famed chef Suzanne Goin, located in Brentwood, has been serving phenomenal food in three separate dining areas of the restaurant for over a year now. For a casual quick bite or food to-go the Larder is the place to grab salads, sandwiches and cheeses or charcuterie. Also, the cases are stocked with desserts such as macarons, chocolate chip cookies and sweet layered cakes. Picnic baskets to-go are available as well for dining at your favorite outside venues like the Hollywood Bowl.

At Tavern, the bar offers lunch and dinner with a petite menu of small plates–spiced nuts, olives and even crispy bacon for quick starters. Warm gougeres with radishes, lamb meatballs and chilled shrimp are a favorite with a cocktail or glass of wine. However, the burgers available are something not to miss–Niman Ranch beef burger with fontina, pork.pork.pork.with manchego and the organic turkey burger with tomato confit are all completely satisfying. These hearty creations are all served with either arugula salad, herbed fries or house made onion rings.

Pork Confit with Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Bacon & Spinach in a Savory Syrup

If you are looking for fine dining, the Atrium is your place for an experience. The Atrium with white ceilings and dark tables is a real eye catcher. The appetizers vary from fresh winter squash soup to an outstanding escarole salad with mortadella, crispy apples and torn croutons. The wild mushroom tart is another favorite with leeks and aged goat cheese. As for main courses, the petrale sole with cauliflower puree, almonds and golden raisins is one of the best. This dish is light and flavorful and doesn’t skimp on portion size. The pork confit with roasted sweet potatoes and spinach was tender to the fork with a reduced savory syrup glaze. As for the rib-eye with potato-bacon gratin and red wine butter – fabulous and two could easily share.

The desserts such as caramel apple pie coupe with roasted apple ice cream and the spiced red wine poached pear coupe with mascarpone ice cream were creamy and decadent. Cheeses from the Larder are also available for a last course as well as cookies and milk for a nice “good night” touch.
