It’s almost Valentine’s Day and reservations are running low in availability, especially at a few of the more romantic spots in our wonderful city. There are so many options for romance in a city by the beach, you can dine on the water, you can dine near the water, you dine downtown, you can dine on a bluff, how does one choose?! While there are so many renowned romantic spots in San Diego, this is our Top 5 list for what we consider the most romance you can get with your meal. Of course there are many amazing venues that dish up the love and the smolder with every bite of their delectable food, but these five really stand out in romantic ambiance and that inexplicable love vibe that some restaurants really know how to produce.
1 Bertrand at Mister A's
What is more romantic than eating at the finest restaurant in town on top of the entire city with views that are unmatched anywhere in San Diego? Bertrand at Mister A's is an incredible restaurant, and it's romantic scenic views and the entire experience of dining atop the city on fine French cuisine is pretty hard to beat. The menu is creative and delicious, the atmosphere is that of elegance and elite company, and to dine on the balcony while overlooking the city all they way to the water is something you can't find just anywhere. If you're looking to take your most special someone to a place that screams romance, you want to treat them to an evening at Bertrand at Mister A's. They won't forget the night.
2 Chez Loma
Chez Loma oozes romance the way some of their amazing French dishes oozes cheese and style. Located right next to Coronado Beach, this restaurant is just, very simply, incredible romantic. From the intimate tables to the low lighting to the historic building from the late 1800's, this is a place to bring someone you truly love and share a meal. After you enjoy one of their incredible dishes from their special Valentine's Day menu, such as Canard Roti, and you delight in a special dessert, take a stroll down the Coronado Beach, hand in hand, and know you've done well this Valentine's Day. Better move quickly though, this restaurant isn't huge, and everyone in town is racing to get a table here for the most romantic day of the year.
3 The Sky Room- La Valencia Hotel
La Valencia Hotel is so romantic, all in itself, so it's no surprise that their restaurant, The Sky Room, would land on our list as one of the most romantic spots in the city to enjoy a meal. One aspect of this restaurant that really stands alone, aside from it's gorgeous decor and remarkably fresh food, is their extensive wine list with over 1000 labels and a plethora of awards behind it's name. With only eleven tables, getting a table here for a romantic night is not only sought after, it's not the easiest task. Sitting on top of the La Valencia, it offers 180 degree views of the Pacific, while you sip your fine wine and dine on their carefully selected and crafted dishes. Your loved one will not be disappointed!
If being the only Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five-Diamond Award-winning restaurant in all of southern California isn't enough to make a place special, the long, tree-lined drive up to the Addison doors and everything that lie inside will definitely convince you that this is a place for love. As if it isn't romantic enough at the Grand Del Mar's incredible signature restaurant, this month Addison is taking up the romance a notch for Valentine's Day. With Amour in le Salon, guests are invited before dinner or for a quick lovers’ escape, to lounge in Le Salon featuring small bites created by Chef William Bradley along with cocktails to get you ready for the big meal. Also, on Valentine's Day, they're hosting the Valentine's Day dinner with a sumptuous six-course tasting menu, leaving the regular menu off your palate for the evening. With it's unbeatable wine list, it's selection of the best food you're going to find anywhere, and the incredibly understated class emitting from it's very walls, Addison is hard to beat in the romance department. Order up something bubbly and relish in the fact that you're eating the best food in all of Southern California, period.
5 Mille Fleurs
What is it about the French that just gets us all so in love? Mille Fleurs is the French countryside escape in the middle of Southern California. The dining room feels warm, the atmosphere is relaxed yet elegant, and the food is amazing. With the complete French cuisine and ambiance in place, this is a very romantic spot to share dinner. With reservations almost filled for every dining hour on Valentine's Day, it's plain to see that many people are in agreement about the romantic qualities of this fine establishment. Food and Wine have included this venue in it's Top 25 in the Nation list, and we concur, this is a great place to dine. Hold hands across your table and bask in the wine and food glow of Mille Fleurs.
