Yes, we know it, you know it…Valentine’s Day is almost here. The triumvirate of flowers, jewelry and chocolate is probably dancing through your head. But with the V-Day rush, it may be tough to figure out where to go to find the perfect confection for your sweetie. So, in honor of one indispensable part of the Valentine’s Day trio, here are our top 5 picks for chocolate shops in the city.

1 Jacques Torres Chocolates

Jacques Torres is like the Bon Jovi of chocolates. The French chocolate-maker brings a unique sensibility to his chocolate shops. You can taste the rainbow, everything from creamy raspberry to pistachio marzipan to chai tea. If you want to bring your parter to a truly chocolate-y experience, bring them to their Hudson Street location (one of six!) to witness chocolate being made from fresh beans.

2 MarieBelle

MarieBelle is not just your standard delicious, luxury chocolate. They take it up a notch and turn their chocolates into works of art. Walk into their SoHo shop, and you are immediately seduced by the aroma of gourmet chocolate. It's a feast for your eyes with chocolates of all different shapes and colors displayed beautifully. Pop one into your mouth and you will see why the morsels are so widely adored; they are all handmade from the finest single-origin cacao. When you visit their shop, you can also rest those feet in their Cacao Bar & Tea Salon for a sip of their delicious cocoa!

3 Kee's Chocolates

Quaint, Cute, and Kee! The chocolate shop is the brainchild of Kee Ling Tong, who left behind the corporate world to make chocolates for New Yorkers. You can find Kee often crafting her handmade chocolates in her shop, which are made fresh daily. The flavors change as seasons and available ingredients change. Our favorites include the champagne truffles made with dark chocolate ganache combined with champagne, and green tea truffles made with white chocolate rolled in green tea powder.

4 Martine's Chocolates

Martine's defines gourmet chocolates with their confections that are handmade daily by Martine's "chefs chocolatiers." The secret? The shop uses the finest, natural ingredients including Belgian Callebaut chocolate, French butter, and fresh cream. You can taste the difference. Some of our faves? The banana chocolate mousse is a dark chocolate truffle shell surrounding a delicious banana mousse, and the oyster chocolates are a delectable blend of five Belgian chocolates, a secret Martine's recipe.

5 Mondel's Chocolates

The Mondel's chocolate shop became an instant NYC favorite after Katherine Hepburn called their chocolate the "best in the world." Pretty high praise but well deserved. The shop has a broad assortment of homemade sweets and their chocolate experts will help you choose whatever suits your fancy. Whether you are from the neighborhood, or traveled across the country to try their truffles, you will find the trip well worth it.
