As we know, staying fit is vital. If you’re flexible with your workout routine, Hollywood fitness guru Alycea Ungaro invites you to try a new exercise. The Real Pilates Spring Circuit combines the benefits of your hardest weight lifting session at the gym, your most intense cardio practice, along with the elongating power of Pilates. She has the largest studio in New York City solely dedicated to this Pilates practice.
What makes spring circuit different from a regular Pilates class? “The springs are an integral part of the class and help to propel the tempo and increase the resistance,” says Ungaro. You work out in timed circuits that cycle through your body and train your muscles with unique effective springs. Upper body and lower body routines raise your heart rate and your body heat, all while sculpting you a brand new shape.
Last month Ungaro’s new book was released called “Pilates Practice Companion.” It is a one-stop guide for Pilates novices, as well as those hoping to consolidate what they already know. The book is separated into exercises for beginner, intermediate and advanced fitness levels, which allows readers to focus on the exercises that are relevant to them and to progress at their own pace. With step-by-step photography, clear instructions on each exercise and key features such as annotated photographs of common faults, this book is accessible, authoritative and inspiring.
Ungaro has been practicing Pilates for 20 years and is one of the most recognized and influential Pilates teachers. She is a Fitness Magazine advisory board member, author of several best-selling Pilates titles and a certified physical therapist. Her studio is located at 177 Duane Street in TriBeCa.
