Haute Event: DCOTA Homage to Tinseltown

Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) held a private event on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at their location in Dania Beach to celebrate the debut of two new Hollywood-inspired show houses, DesignHouse l Film+ Design: The Golden Age of Hollywood and Greg Gorman: A Distinct Vision 1970-2010. It was a Tinseltown-worthy preview gala attended by more than 600 of South Florida’s design elite.

Guests who attended the exclusive preview event included fashion connoisseur Trina Turk, photographer Iran Issa Khan and Greg Lotus, as well as interior designers Vladimir Kagan and wife Erica Kagan, India Hicks, Tui Pranich, Lars Bolander, San Robins, Louis Aguirre, host of “Deco Drive” Frederick Dechnik and Jonathan and Griselda Breen, among others. All gathered to witness the astonishing 200-piece display by celebrity photographer Greg Gorman in collaboration with Fahey/Klein Gallery in L.A. The honored guests sipped cocktails provided by Grey Goose and Bacardi, and where among the privileged to sneak peak Gorman’s largest exhibit to-date. The show featured portraits of some of Hollywood’s finest including Leonardo DiCaprio, Grace Jones, Johnny Deep, Sophia Loren, Keanu Reeves, Mark Wahlberg, Jude Law and Tom Cruise.

The same evening, DCOTA held a special ceremony to announce the 2011 Star of Design Awards. Among the winners was landscape designer Fernando Wong, who received the 2011 Star of Design Award for Landscape Design. His work is currently on display at the DCOTA Show House.

Some of South Florida’s masterminds in attendance, who also spoke of their pieces, were Edward Nieto of Nieto Designs, Leta & India Foster of Leta Austin Foster & Associates, Myron Wolman of Myron Wolman Designs, Margi Nothard of Glavovic Studio Inc., Josh Wollowick of Josh Wollowick Designs, Bruce Sutka of Sutka Productions, Amanda Lindroth of Lindroth Design, Matthew McDonald of MacDonald Design Associates, Deborah Wecselman of Deborah Wecselman Design, Fanny Haim of Fanny Haim and Associates Inc., Elizabeth Lodge and Tracey Rowely of Four Step Designs, Ivonne Ronderos and Lisa King Whyte of DKOR Interiors, Sofia Joelsson of SoJo Design, Ric Owens of Ric Owens Planning and Design, James Wall of Thirlwall LLC, Alex Matamoros of DCOTA Design Services, as well as Tony Ferchak and Lorenzo B. Mollicone of William Bernard Design.
