Our Haute 100 list details the accomplishments of the most influential people in each of our markets—Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. These people continue to make moves, so rather than waiting for the next Haute 100 issue to come out, we thought we’d provide you with regular updates on those Haute 100 members who are making headlines. Thanks to Larry Gagosian, a new gallery district is taking form in Geneva.

Larry Gagosian

Category: Thinkers

Company: Gagosian Galleries

Industry: Art

What Made Him Haute: Larry Gagosian is a powerful figure in the contemporary art world. Gagosian’s out-of-the-box thinking has made him the huge name he is today. He has severed as a mentor and guide for other successful art aficionados like Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, and Richard Serra, amongst others. The ingenious art dealer started his art business by selling posters near the UCLA campus in Los Angeles. His love for art was so great; he now owns Gagosian Gallery chain, with locations in New York City, London, Los Angeles, Rome and Athens.

What Makes Him Haute Now: Gagosian is adding yet another geographical region to his list. He is developing a new gallery district in Geneva. Geneva, a small city with 200,000 inhabitants, has been long known as a focal point in international diplomacy, a financial center, a luxury goods capital and the site of marvelous placid lakes – but it was never seen as a hot spot in the art world until now. With the arrival of Larry Gagosian on the scene, there is new artistic life in the dull city, with other new galleries set to be opening shop there as well. Gagosian’s inaugural show, “Giacometti in Switzerland” will run until March, and has close ties to the city. The opening show will showcase various works from Swiss-born sculptor Alberto Giacometti.
