Our Haute 100 list details the accomplishments of the most influential people in each of our markets—Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. These people continue to make moves, so rather than waiting for the next Haute 100 issue to come out, we thought we’d provide you with regular updates on those Haute 100 members who are making headlines. Matt Damon adds another award to his already long list of accomplishments.
What Made Him Haute: Harvard graduate Matt Damon is an inspiration to many. Not only is he an actor with an education, he is also a liberal activist, philanthropist and a Miami triathlon competitor. Damon lives right here in Miami Beach with his wife, a former bartender he met at a hot South Beach restaurant, and with the couple’s four daughters. The A-list actor, who in 2007 was named “Sexist Man Alive” by People, is one of the most sought out actors in Hollywood. In 2000, Damon co-founded LivePlanet with fellow actor and best friend Ben Affleck with the mission of creating media that can be enjoyed through a variety of platforms.
What Makes Him Haute Now: If he didn’t already have numerous awards under his belt, Matt Damon can add one more. He is said to be in line to receive a Critics’ Choice Award; the news was made by The Broadcast Films Critics Association early in January. In 2010, Damon appeared in three high profile films, “True Grit,” “Hereafter” and “Green Zone,” all directed by very accomplished directors. Since bursting into the scene in 2007, with hit movie “Good Will Hunting,” Damon has made it his priority to only work with the best Hollywood directors around. The list includes Gus Van Sant, Steven Spielberg, Anthony Minghella, Robert Redford, Steven Soderbergh, Greengrass, Terry Gilliam, Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood and the Coen brothers, just to name a few. The 16th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Award aired live on Jan. 14 on VH1.
