Many would offer Benjamin Franklin as Philadelphia’s most famous son, but technically he was born in Boston, and he never won an Emmy. Thankfully, the city and its surrounding ‘burbs have brought forth a rather impressive list of actors and musicians in more recent years, many of whom are happy to plug (and make fun of) their Philadelphia roots in their work. Here are five that we are proud to call neighbors.
1 Will Smith
As the song goes, born and raised. Smith's hard times as a kid in the city helped him created an award-winning persona for himself. From his early days as a goofy East Coast boy pranking the elite of Bel Aire to his rap music career, Smith has continued his connections with the area .
2 Tina Fey
The Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock funny girl started it all in Delaware County where she wrote a comedy column for the Upper Darby High School newspaper. Now the winner of multiple Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe awards, the star mentions Philly often in interviews, and set and filmed her movie with Amy Poehler, Baby Mama, here.
