As the winter winds rolled in to the city and many of us enjoyed a day of post-Thanksgiving relaxation or shopping, a number of the area’s young men and women and their families kicked off the gala season with the 2010 Philadelphia Charity Ball at the Union League of Philadelphia.
A Philadelphia tradition for 131 years, the ball introduces the next generation into formal society while taking advantage of the gathering and raising funds of local charities. This year, six debutantes were presented to the Board of Directors. A traditional Cotillion including their fathers, their escorts, and the 2010 Young Ladies’ and Young Men’s Committees. This year’s charity was the Gesu School, a private Catholic grade school serving the communities of North Philadelphia with a curriculum based in academic excellence, leadership building and character formation.
In addition, the 2010 Bryn Mawr Trust & Philadelphia Charity Ball Scholarship Award was presented. Students from the Gesu School were on hand to present a ballroom dance presentation, and the evening’s music was provided by Peter Duchin and his Orchestra.
