Santas in Speedos to Invade the Streets of Boston

Wax up your Speedo, fluff up your Santa hat and brace yourself for a cold winter’s run at the 11th Annual Santa Speedo Run.  Now officially called the SSRun, the mission, crazy and impossible as it may seem, is the same.  Ladies and gents dawn little more than a Speedo (including a top for the ladies), a Santa hat, and their running shoes all in the name of charity.  If you have never seen or participated in the event – it is quite a spectacle to behold.

This year’s run benefits three local charities, all dedicated to helping Boston area children: The Starlight Children’s Foundation, dedicated to bringing happiness, hope and an improved quality of life to seriously ill children and their families in New England; the Play Ball Foundation, an organization focused on expanding sports for Boston middle school students; and Hospitality Homes, an organization that helps to place families and friends in need of a place to stay in the homes of caring people who want to help.

The event takes place this Saturday, December 11th.  Participants can register now online as an individual or as a team. It costs $30 per person to register, plus a commitment to raise a minimum of $300.  All registrants must be at least 21 years old. There are limited number of spots available and registrants will be waitlisted after 500 registrants.

The run kicks off from Lir at 903 Boylston Street in Boston for a one mile run through the Back Bay – up Boylston Street, across Berkeley Street, back down Newbury Street and finally across Gloucester Street back to Lir. Registration at Lir begins at 10AM and the run will kick off at 1PM.  The post party at Lir is ready to roll at 1:30PM.

And the predicted weather for Boston this Saturday?  As of now, weather.com has the weather at 41 degrees Farenheit with rain/snow showers. Ouch.

There is also an online auction to benefit SSRun. Items up for bid include a Jonathan Papelbon autographed jersey, lift tickets for a party of six at Cranmore Mountain, and an overnight stay at the Charles Hotel along with a pair of tickets to see the play “Ruined” at the Huntington Theater in Boston.
