Haute Body

OK, it is Dec. 1, and if you are like me you are wondering where the year went and how to avoid the dreaded holiday weight gain. Let’s face it, you cannot become a hermit and avoid all the fun, but you can in fact try my new favorite workout to keep the weight off and your body tight.

Kimberly Fowler founded YAS Fitness Center in 2001 after overcoming her own share of obstacles such as brain cancer and a near-fatal climbing accident. Although Dr. Sanjay Gupta felt her approach is “irreverent,” I would definitely beg to differ. Her fun and unpretentious workout in my mind is comparable to a phenomenon and is designed for anyone and everyone, and well that is exactly what I saw.

When I entered the studio, I was immediately welcomed with a friendly hello by everyone and to make things even more amazing there was no sign of mean girls whispering in the corner, macho trainers hovering and starring or gurus judging my abilities. This was  “The No Om Zone,” which is also the name of Fowler’s book, so there was no granola nor chanting nor Sanskrit and the room was bustling with a pair of mothers and daughters, handful of lovers, lots of friends and to keep things sassy a celebrity photographer ready to conquer themselves with a workout and a smile on their faces. In 60 minutes, Amanda, our instructor, perfectly sculpted our bodies and helped us to find a calm aura that Fowler has worked so hard to create for her followers.

This may sound too good to be true, but I believe in being a glass half full kind of girl and I promise you will love it. Heck, you may even find yourself dreaming about the yoga class with 3 pound weights instead of your favorite holiday dessert. Try YAS, you will L.O.V.E. it.
