Harvard Square Holiday Market

At this point, you have probably shopped the malls, the boutiques and are sea-sick from surfing the web for the perfect holiday gifts and final decorating touches.  Why not enjoy the brisk seasonal air this weekend with a stroll through the unique atmosphere of Harvard Square? There is much going on and lots of spots, inside and out, to spend this festive time of year.

Holiday Market

If you’re a fan of the summer farmer’s market, the Holiday Market will be a welcome addition to the Harvard Square festivities.  Located next to the Charles Hotel, the market will be open from 11AM to 3PM Sunday, December 19th and will feature the following vendors: 3LittleFigs Tasty All-Natural Bakin’, Spring Brook Farm, Q’s Nuts, Grateful Farm, Coy Brook Farm and Stillman’s Turkey Farm. Shop for a variety of goods from farm fresh eggs and local cheeses to homemade soaps and lush green plants. It’s the perfect stop for finding that just right recipe ingredient or a special hostess gift.

Ice Skating

There’s nothing quite like a little outdoor ice skating in a cityscape. Enjoy a break from the hustle and bustle of the holidays as the ice skating rink outside of the Charles Hotel opens for the season this Sunday, December 19th at noon. Rent a pair of skates and glide along the glassy enclosure. It’s a great way to spend the afternoon for adults and children. There will also be a visit from Globe Santa with hot cocoa and cookie decorating available from noon to 3PM. This year’s event will benefit The Globe Santa Fund, providing presents for needy children.

Shopping

While you are in the square, there are many great little shops to try while you are there.  We recommend the following: Cardullo’s Gourmet Shoppe for all the gourmet treats you just don’t have time to jet around the world and collect right now; Black Ink for all the trinkets and bobbles you never knew you needed and now just cannot live without; Museum of Useful Things offering fun and clever solutions for everyday needs; Cambridge Artists Collaborative showcasing the art of over 250 New England artists from wearable pieces to framed spectacles; and Curious George Books and Toys for all the curious minds on your last minute shopping list.
