Ain’t No Party Like a Chanukah Party!

The first night of Chanukah is upon us and you know what that means. It’s time to get your dredyl on. As soon as sundown hits tonight, Los Angeles is primed to kick off a Chanukah celebration that would make the Maccabees proud. Here’s a few highlights from this year’s festival of lights.

Chanukkah Celebration at Universal CityWalk

100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, CA 91608 818-622-9841

Party with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and congressman Ben Sherman at Universal CityWalk’s Chanukah party tonight, Dec. 1, from 5:00pm – 9:00pm. The festivities, which include kosher nosh and live entertainment from Lipa Schmeltzer, Pardes Jewish Rock and Lenny Solomon, also boast the lighting of the West Coast’s largest Menorah, weighing in at 18 feet high. Think of it as the Burning Man of Jewish Holidays.

Hanukah O Hanukah

7274 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90046 323.936.9086

Hit up Angeli Caffé for a prix-fixe festival of lights feast, Dec. 2nd. So far the restaurant is all mum’s-the-word on the menu, but rumor on the street is that a sumptuous pot roast and luxe latkes are in the works. Light your menorah’s at sundown on the second night and then cruise over to Angeli–the celebration seating starts promptly at 7:00 pm.

Chanukah Electronica

8771 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90035 310.275.2619

Join L.A. based electro-crats, Naked Rhythm, at a jeep-beat shindig housed in The Joint for the last night of Chanukah, Dec. 8th, from 8:00 pm to 12:00 am. Go get your groove on, snack on some Chanukah treats, giggle at comedian Smooth-E, and play a round or two of Texas Dredyl. I’m betting you win.
