This week we had the pleasure of trying out the D-BOX motion seats at the brand-new UltraStar Cinemas at Scottsdale Pavilions and discovered they add a whole new thrilling dimension to the cinematic experience.
D-BOX creates motion technology to sync perfectly with the action in the film, enabling you to feel everything from the subtle effects of a rocking boat to the zip and zoom of a high-speed car chase. And there’s an intensity controller on each of the super-comfortable seats, so with the touch of a button you can crank up the sensation or dial it down to your preference.
The D-BOX seats are installed in just 30 theaters throughout the world, with the UltraStar Cinemas location in Surprise, Arizona, being one of the first locations to feature them. And now, with the new UltraStar in Scottsdale Pavilions, centrally located Phoenicians will have the opportunity to experience the D-BOX technology, too.
The motion seats at the Scottsdale UltraStar will be debuting with the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” the fifth and latest installment in the Harry Potter series, opening at midnight tonight. We can’t wait for our D-BOX seat to insert us right into the experience flying on a broomstick, riding the Hogwarts Express and getting into a wizards’ duel. (Check out the D-BOX trailer for the film here.) Another upcoming film to be synced with D-BOX will be the much anticipated “TRON: Legacy.”
If you haven’t been to this theater location in a while, you can take our word for it: the improvements UltraStar has made are vast and impressive, with the interior now outfitted with an elegant “Italian villa” style of decor. Plus, theater-goers have a number of options when it comes to customizing their movie experience; in addition to D-BOX tickets, you can also secure tickets for 3-D and Star Class screenings.
The Star Class theaters are the icing on the cake when it comes to the Scottsdale UltraStar’s “UltraLuxe” designation. In these “21 and older only” theaters, viewers enjoy oversized chairs that are generously spaced out, complete with small side trays, cup holders and big armrests — the perfect seats from which to make the most of UltraStar’s in-seat ordering offerings (paninis on sourdough, red or white wine …).
There’s no doubt about it, for serious movie lovers who want to enjoy the ultimate theater experience, UltraStar will become their first choice.
D-BOX seats can be reserved (if available for your selected screening) at the time of your ticket purchase, either via the UltraStar Web site, or by calling the theater. Star Class and 3-D tickets can also be purchased via the Web site or by calling the theater. Pricing depends on the combination you choose: You will pay the regular ticket price for your selected screening, plus an additional $8 for D-BOX and/or an additional $3 for 3-D and/or an additional $2 for Star Class.
