Why he loves New York: The people.

The acclaimed dermatologist has been on shows with Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters, his books “The Wrinkle Cure” and “The Perricone Prescription” have both shot up to No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list, and he has managed to secure a national audience to view his PBS specials twice a week. So what’s his secret? Passion. “It’s incredibly fulfilling,” he says.

Yes, this intelligent man made it to the top with his hard work, but it was when he fell in love with the medical field after he was disillusioned by traditional medicine that could not provide answers or relief. This in turn fostered a drive to produce something more effective.

Before medicine, Perricone was a literature lover, graduating at 23 with an English degree. And after gaining an interest in the effects of diet on the body, his passion slowly drove him to become one of the most recognizable names in the medical field. Today, the doctor’s accomplishments include receiving the 2000 Norman E. Clark Sr. Lecture Award and the Eli Whitney Award, establishing the Dr. Nicholas V. Perricone Project for the Children of Brazil, and getting the chance to meet Pope John Paul II for his philanthropic efforts in Brazil.
