Haute Opening: The Daiquiri Factory Opens in Midtown

Across the street from where I live in Midtown, there has been this abandoned tiki hut place for years. Then a few months ago, I spotted a sign that said The Daiquiri Factory. Recently, I decided to stop in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised as well as a little (actually a  lot ) tipsy.  The concept, as you can tell by the name, is Daiquiris, and the whole theme of the Midtown restaurant is Island Oasis. Wood floors, bamboo-esque bars and fans made out of wooden leaves are the main decorating elements of the spot. But it is the daiquiris, ranging from strong, very strong to lethal that take the prize.

After tasting a few of the concoctions from the machines behind the bar, I realized that maybe lunch was not the best time to try out this spot. But, they are so good that it is very easy to forget you are possibly and effortlessly consuming 190% grain alcohol.

Of the 15 flavors of Daiquiris, I have yet to try them all. A few favorites so far include Sex On the Beach, the Orgasm  and (the lethal) Georgia Peach. Some of the others are Margarita, Purple Rain, Virgin and Blue Muthu Shut Yo Mouth. If you need an even bigger kick, you can opt to add a top shelf shot of liquor into your drink. Proceed with caution, however, before you go adding extras to your already potent concoction. If daiquiris are not your thing, they also stock a full bar with all major players present, including Hennessy and Grey Goose.

The food, which has a simple, ocean-side feel (think steamed oysters, shrimp po boys) is surprisingly good, but the two level 80-seat outdoor patio will be the main attraction of the daiquiri bar and grill. Eleven flat screen TVs are against the windows of the patios and around the inside so you can come to The Daiquiri Factory, root for you teams and celebrate the good the life.

Only recommendation: plan on walking. With the flavors so delicious, it is easy to forget the fact that you are sipping pure alcohol.

The Daiquiri Factory is located at 889 W. Peachtree St. 404.881.8188
