Scott Fitzergerald’s 1925 literary classic, “The Great Gatsby,” Leonardo DiCaprio will play the lead role of Jay Gatsby.

DiCaprio went from America’s heartthrob to America’s smartest and most versatile actor, starring in Shutter Island and Inception this year—two movies we still can’t stop talking about.
What Makes Him Haute Now: As the wealthy, mysterious bootlegger of the nouveaux riche West Egg who falls for Daisy Buchanan, Leonardo DiCaprio will star alongside Carey Mulligan, who was just given the role of Daisy at Monday night’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Funds awards, and Toby Maguire, who is expected to play Nick Carraway. The film is scheduled for release in 2012.
The “Inception” star is also set to play FBI director J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood-directed “Hoover,” a biopic scheduled for 2012, and Dr. Henry Howard Holmes in “The Devil in the White City,” a thriller based on the novel by Erik Larson, scheduled for 2013.
