With it’s rich flavors and fiery kick, most Latin-inspired food pairs amazingly well with the creamy tang of good beer. Iron Chef Jose Garces and his crew at Chifa have decided to jump on this advantage, has been hosting a series of beer pairing dinners at the restaurant, which will continue through the rest of the year. But next up: a menu with the local and suitably named Iron Hill Brewery.
November 18, Iron Hill’s head brewer from with Maple Shade, NJ spot, Chris LaPierre, will be on hand to host the dinner and help guests understand the differences in the handcrafted beers and how they make perfect matches for Garces’ Peruvian/Asian fare.
The four-course feast is set to include:
- hopuka ceviche with sunchoke leche de tigre and sweet potato, paired with a spicy yet citrusy Rising Sun IPA
- Peruvian Stew with root vegetables, chorizo, braised beef and rabbit loin, paired with the classic English ale Victoria’s Bitter
- roast pig with apple-porter glaze, spicy baby black kale, paired with creamy Pig Iron Porter, a dark beer with roasted chocolate notes and slight bitterness
- five-spice bread pudding and ginger-pecan ice cream and malted chocolate sauce, paired with Weizenbock, a toasty brew with banana notes
We can only hope that some of those addictive yucca rolls with guava butter are on the table, too. Divine.
Keep your eyes peeled for details coming out soon on Chifa’s other upcoming beer pairing dinners, including one with Troegs Brewing Co. on Thursday, December 16 and Brooklyn Brewery on Thursday, January, 20.
The Iron Hill dinner will begin at 7 p.m. on November 18. The menu is $65 per person. Chifa is located at 707 Chestnut St. Call 215.925.5555 or visit www.chifarestaurant.com for more information or to make reservations, which are required.
