Need a reason to indulge in some delectable sweets? Forget the guilt, Sophie’s Uptown, a bakery opening later this month, takes care of that for you. In fact, this café and bakery is dedicated to saving homeless animals. The grand opening fundraiser benefitting New Leash On Life is Thursday, October 28th, and this will be the first of many animal nights to come at this spot with “people treats and animal love”. Sophie’s Uptown will open for the public on November 8.
Well-known animal activist in Atlanta and owner of the award winning doggie daycare and pet hotel, Barking Hound Village, David York, is behind this new venture. Well, actually, he credits the idea to the memory of his late companion Miss Sophie York. Sadly, she is no longer with us, but her memory will live on in Sophie’s Uptown.
Miss Sophie York, who celebrated her 20th birthday party in 2008, was a tethered dog when David rescued her. For 20 years, however, she became his inspiration and strength to help other animals who were not as fortunate. Now two years later, David York will open Sophie’s Uptown, which will serve bakery goods, ice cream and salads.
“In her memory, I created Sophie’s Uptown,” says York. “Sophie inspired me to save as many animals as possible.”
Sure to be a success among the dog lover’s in town, Sophie’s Uptown, located on Pharr Road in Buckhead, will donate 25% of all proceeds to animal rescue groups.
How can you turn down eating to help save animals? I certainly can’t.
And for many of those in Atlanta who got to know the beloved Sophie over the years, her memory will live on.
