Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts Presents La Gran Fiesta

Havana’s Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba flamenco dancers, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra and Broadway legend Chita Rivera are just a few of the much-anticipated acts that will be performing at the SCPA’s La Gran Fiesta event, Nov. 4-7. Come out to dance to hot Latin beats and enjoy delicious traditional food and drink at this four-day festival.

The Scottsdale Civic Center park area will be unrecognizable the first weekend in November as it’s taken over with Hispanic and Latin American flair. Thursday evening, Nov. 4, will see some precision flamenco dancing by Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba, followed by an outdoor concert courtesy of the Spanish Harlem Orchestra on Friday, Nov. 5, and finally, the famed Chita Rivera will sing some favorite classics Saturday night, Nov. 6. Tickets to these performances vary, and can be purchased via the SCPA’s site.

On both Saturday and Sunday, from noon to 6 p.m., event-goers will enjoy a free, two-day outdoor festival featuring even more Latin music and dancing, plenty of food and beverages, family activities and an arts and crafts mercado. Peruse beautiful jewelry, glass works, paintings, mosaics and more. Don’t miss the free live performances by The Samba Project and Capoeira Brasil on Saturday, Quetzal Guerrero and The Warriors on Sunday, and many other talented bands and individuals. The Arizona Opera will even be performing selections from the opera “Carmen.” These free performances will take place at the Fountain Stage right outside the SCPA, so stake out your own patch of grassy space and then dance the afternoon away. Who knows, you may even pick up a few new moves.

Cultures from Mexico to the Caribbean to South America will be celebrated during La Gran Fiesta, so whether you’re of Hispanic or Latin American descent or just want to show some love and support for the local community … Vamanos!
