A steak really is a thing of beauty. Simple, straightforward and satisfying, cutting into a perfectly seared steak is one of dining’s greatest pleasures. And there’s no lack of fantastic steakhouses in Orange County for a prime cut – here’s the Top 5 Steakhouses from coastline to Irvine.

1 Fleming's

Undisputedly the top spot for steak, Fleming’s is not only a steak house that’s steeped in tradition, they’re constantly adding to their menu and adding twists to old favorites. Shrimp Louis comes in a wrap and steak (there are over a dozen to choose from) can come plain and simple or crusted in peppercorn. Only one thing’s certain: you don’t want to skimp on their house made F17 sauce – it’s the finishing touch to all their perfect steaks.

2 Houston's

If it’s good enough for Kobe Bryant (he’s a regular) and a dozen or so Ducks (you’ll see them there too) you can be sure that the steaks at Houston’s are prime, prepared flawlessly and presented like fine art. The menu here’s vast, but stick to the steak and you’ll be making the right choice no matter what cut you choose.

3 Morton's

Power lunch or not, there’s a reason the dark booths of Morton’s are notorious for sealing deals. The steaks here are as old school as the come: straightforward, no frills and no fuss. And considering the seafood here’s just as good as the steak, there’s no reason to skip out on the surf and turf. Go ahead, everything definitely makes the grade.

4 La Cave

It’s not as seedy as you might think (being around since ’62 means that you’re no secret), but this subterranean hideaway has a few secrets that it keeps under wraps: the steaks and martinis are clean, mean and always served up with the restaurants famous twice-baked cheese-stuffed potato. Paired with Australian lobster tail or on its own, a steak at La Cave won’t ever leave you asking for more.

5 Mastro's

Chic and sophisticated, this is a steak house where you’ll see girls night outs as often as you’ll see boys out for some real cuts. The prime steaks and seafood are what you’d expect: the best of the best, but there’s no reason to skip dessert: ending a meal here (ahem, experience) wouldn’t be complete without one of Mastro’s signature sweets.
