It’s easy to overlook steak in favour of London’s multitude of gourmet restaurants and regional cuisines. Still, a night sinking your teeth into prime cuts, washed down with a great red is sometimes the perfect comforting treat. Luckily London has some of the best steakhouses in the world.

Admittedly, Marie Teather sits more on the side of the non-meat eating brigade but she has tracked down some ravenous steak lovers to get the steak lowdown.

1 Kings Road Steakhouse and Grill

Marco Pierre’s traditional steakhouse and grill in the heart of Chelsea serves a range of classic steak cuts, as well as a wide variety of timeless English dishes.

Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, the Kings Road Steakhouse and Grill’s glamorous interior is always buzzing, as locals, tourists and celebrities enjoy the finest quality steaks, roast meats and fish main boards in the area. Steaks are sourced from selected Scottish farms with special cuts appearing on a regular basis also from Scotland and further abroad.

Inspired by a modern townhouse kitchen, Maze Grill, combines contemporary design with a warm and relaxed atmosphere making it a more laid back affair than its Michelin-starred sister, Maze.

Inspired by New York steakhouses, you can enjoy a menu dominated by meats cooked over coals, while signature dishes include the burger and fries, and steaks (New York strip, premium wagyu, or 25-day aged Hereford rib-eye) served with creamy horseradish, blue cheese or red wine sauces.

Situated on the vibrant 'Chelsea Beach' strip close to King’s Road, Sophie’s Steakhouse buzzes with Chelsea locals, professional types and families. The bright, rustic interior appeals to diners throughout the day while the busy cocktail bar pulls in crowds at night.

There’s a huge selection of steaks from the 10oz rib eye and the 16oz sirloin on the bone to the 20oz Chateaubriand and even a 28oz Porterhouse for serious steak fans.

4 Top Floor At Smiths

Smiths of Smithfield’s is a Grade II listed, four-floor restaurant in the heart of Smithfield market—London’s only working meat market. The restaurant’s priority has always been to serve simple food made from the finest locally sources ingredients and with the meat market is right outside, you know that British beef on your plate has not traveled far.

Each floor has a New York warehouse feel and to put it simply; it’s all about the steak here. The menu is complemented by an extensive wine list with prices that suit the expense accounts of the nearby banking and financial services clientele.
