New Luxury Hotel Opens in Laos

It’s almost that time of year again: the holidays. That wonderful season where you get to be jolly with your friends and family, host dinner parties and toast to good cheer. You are also, however, dealing with visiting in-laws, picky eaters and those darn Christmas lights. Give yourself a little pre-holiday vacay, at Design Hotel’s new Laos destination.

If you can pronounce it, Alila Luang Prabang may be your dream home away from home. Located in the picturesque mountains of the formal royal capital of Laos, this contemporary, all-suite hotel was orginally a governer’s mansion. The resort’s existing colonial buildings, built between 1910 and 1920, blend with modern architectural structures to compliment the Laos landscape. Designed to unite both exterior and interior areas, each suite has a color scheme meant to reflect the surrounding urban city scape.

The 23 suites include two Governor Suites, four Pool Suites, two Heritage Suites and 15 Garden Suites, open onto a private garden with either a pool or an outdoor pavilion. With an area up to 1,500 square feet and extensive gardens, the larger Heritage and Governor Suites offer generous living spaces. Two corner Pool Suites provide exclusive access to a tower, and with its panoramic views across the township towards the mountains, it is the perfect place for a candlelight dinner.

What other amenities can you expect from this resort? A library, spa, extensive Laos cooking classes so you can impress your state-side friends, organic menu items in the restaurant and more. Besides, its close proximity to the town center gives you ample chance to chase away boredom.
