Haute Event: One Arts Plaza Fall Block Party

The smell of pumpkin spice, the chill in the air, leaves on the ground, college football, Halloween upon us….Fall is definitely in the air! With so many fall festivities going on, why not checkout the One Arts Fall Block Party coming up on Sunday, Oct. 31?

Restaurant Chefs from One Arts Plaza will be competing in a Chef-Cook-off and cocktail Mix-Off. Experience live cooking demonstrations, art exhibits, farmer’s market vendors, tasty treats from One Arts Plaza restaurants and a variety of live performances, which include a concert by Hunter Sullivan.

When: Sunday, Oct. 31

Where: One Arts Plaza, 1722 Routh St.

Time: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission: Free and open to the public

Schedule: Screen Door will sell pulled pork and chopped brisket sandwiches and host seasonal harvest beer tastings while Fedora will offer pizza by the slice and customized regular pizzas. Jorge’s will host Bacardi rum and Case Noble tequila tastings in the afternoon and Tei-An owner and Chef Teiichi Sakurai will cook up Shumai pork dumplings and shiitake mushroom truffle fried rice on his restaurant patio throughout the day.

11 a.m.

Jorge’s will serve its popular chorizo and egg breakfast tacos, chicken and pork tamales and mini chimichangas prepared by Chefs Don Jorge and Guero. Additionally, Fedora will serve a traditional strawberry and rhubarb tart with coffee. For visitors looking for the hair-of-the-dog, Jorge’s Mixoligist DJ Nacho and his assistant Tony will serve their specialty drink “Michealda,” a Mexican version of bloody Mary. Throughout the afternoon Tei-An will host a whiskey tasting with premium Yamazaki Malt Whiskey, and Fedora will make homemade sangria with fresh fruits, Italian red wine and agave nectar.

Noon – Chef Cook-Off

One Arts Plaza Chefs will participate in a Chef Cook-Off Challenge. One secret ingredient will inspire new creations by David McMillan of Screen Door, Teiichi Sakurai of Tei-An, Don Jorge of Jorge’s and Jordan Rogers of Fedora as they all compete to win the culinary contest.

12:30 p.m.

Restaurant chefs will present their creations to a panel of judges who will determine the Critic’s Choice Award. Plaza patrons will have the opportunity to sample the dishes and vote for their favorite dish to win the People’s Choice Award.

1 p.m.

Jorge’s owner Don Jorge will sell Mexican mini tacos and elote, a popular Mexican street food, as well as mini grilled flautitas and its popular organic margarita. Jorge’s will also pass out Mexican candies for those trick or treaters who didn’t receive enough candy the night before.

Fedora will also host a handmade Italian Pici pasta demonstration and tasting.

Additionally, patrons can sample Screen Door’s authentic cuisine as Ryan Charles creates Florida rock shrimp, brown rice, roasted pumpkin and mango salad.

1:30 p.m. – Bartender Mix-Off

Mixologists from each restaurant compete in a Bartender Mix-Off. The mixologists will present their best mixed drink to a panel of cocktail experts at 1:45 p.m. The secret drink ingredient will be unveiled and Drink enthusiasts can sample the unique libations and cast their vote for the best-tasting cocktail.

2 p.m.

Jorge’s Chef Esteban will demonstrate how to make sweet and spicy Caheta Churros.

3:30 p.m.

The famous Hunter Sullivan and his acclaimed jazz band will perform in the plaza.
