Donate and Do Good With Dining With the Stars

Whether your thing is politics, sports, journalism or simply food, a meal out with some interesting table mates can help make a big difference in the lives of area families.

Dining With the Stars is a charity auction to benefit the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, a haven for families of children fighting life-threatening illnesses at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and other area medical facilities. But instead of bidding on a gift card or browning fruit basket, your donations go towards the unique experience of a meal with your favorite area personality.

Want to argue about health care reform with radio host and political analyst Michael Smerconish? Perhaps you have a few choice post-season words for Philadelphia Phillies General Manager Rubin Amaro. Just be the winning bidder and you and nine of your friends can break bread with your host at an area establishment.

Other dinner guests worth a look: Governor Ed Rendell, 610 WIP‘s outspoken Anthony Gargano and Glen Macnow, Villanova University Men’s Basketball Coach Jay Wright and Philadelphia Eagles Right Tackle Winston Justice.

Even if none of the personalities get your heart racing, the restaurants they’ll be dining at may. Le Bec-Fin, Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse, Table 31 and Osteria all made the list. Bid on lunch with an on-air celeb and your meal will be catered in-studio, adding a field trip-like aspect the event. Maybe they’ll even let you push a control button or two.

Bidding starts at $1,000, and as of today high bids were coming in around the $5,000 mark. Bids are accepted through midnight on Friday, October 29, so make your pick soon.
