Denim & Diamonds Event Shines With Phillies, LeAnn Rimes

Cole Hamels, LeAnn Rimes and Heidi Hamels

When it comes to events, theme is oh-so-important. We love the classic combo that Philly power couple Cole and Heidi Hamels used for their Thursday, September 23, event, Diamonds & Denim, which benefited The Hamels Foundation.

The Philadelphia Phillies pitcher and his wife held the event at the swanky Union Trust Philadelphia Steakhouse. The Hamels Foundation is dedicated to bringing an end to extreme poverty and hardship endured by lack of educational support, and has been organizing similar events since its inception in 2008. All ticket sales helped provide struggling Philadelphia schools with grants to purchase equipment or materials they are lacking. All other proceeds will go toward the building of The Hamels Foundation’s girls’ boarding school in Malawi, Africa, which began construction in July 2009.

Guests were encouraged to dress for the party, sporting their favorite jeans paired with sparkle and shine. The event was an evening of casual elegance, featuring cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, carving stations, silent and live auctions and a $25,000 diamond giveaway from Bernie Robbins. Comcast Sportsnet’s Michael Barkann played emcee, while entertainment was provided by stand-up comedian Joe Conklin and world-renown musical artists Tony Orlando and LeAnne Rimes.

On hand were also many of Cole’s teammates, including Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard and Jamie Moyer.  Local media personalities like Philadelphia Style‘s John Collabelli, Playboy Playmates, musicians, realty and soap stars and more also enjoyed the event.
