Party on the Water: Columbus Day Regatta

There’s no better way to pay tribute to the man, who in 1942 sailed the ocean blue, than the annual Columbus Day Regatta happening this weekend, Oct. 9-10, at Biscayne National Park.

But don’t let the name fool you. This is not your typical boat race nor is it the traditional, classy affair. Let’s just say the Columbus Day Regatta, an annual sailboat race and a sand bar raft-up party (read: booze and clothing is optional), has been known to make Mardi Gras in New Orleans look tame.

If you have a boat, or anything that floats, hit Biscayne Bay. Or get to a bridge or high-rise to take in the sight of the largest assembly of vessels of all shapes and sizes.

Of course, stay safe. Don’t drink and boat!
