Children of the City Gala Hosted by Hugh Jackman

New Yorkers braved a tropical storm in support of the Children of the City Gala on Sept. 30, 2010. Dedicated advocates gathered at Pier Sixty for an evening of dining, dancing, and entertainment, including live and silent auctions, for a charitable cause. Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor and producer Hugh Jackman was the event’s guest of honor. “New Yorkers are big givers, not just with their money, but with their time,” Jackman ntoed. Also in attendance was former New York Giants wide receiver David Tyree, and Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih.

WABC’s Lauren Glassberg was the night’s Master of Ceremonies, but it was Joyce Mattera, Children of the City founder, who emphasized the true purpose of the Gala as she introduced Kace Tintron, one of the children helped by the organization’s programs. Children of the City has been serving inner-city children and families in Southwest Brooklyn since 1981. By raising awareness of the education needs and social challenges of underprivileged children, Children of the City aims to better their futures and improve the community.
