From Pilates to Yogalates, Boxing to Piloxing, there always seems to be a new trend when it comes to fitness. Though staples such as Yoga and Pilates have become celebrity favorites, everyone seems to be talking about workouts using the barre. Whether it’s for cardio or ballet, these three studios are the best places to get a barre body.
The Bar Method
A favorite of Britney Spears, The Bar Method is a body-sculpting workout focusing on flexibility, posture correction and body definition. The use of mats and bars throughout the workout make it easier for exercisers to use their own body weight to sculpt muscle and strengthen the core. Though much of the class is reminiscent of moves you might have learned in ballet, those behind The Bar Method promise that all levels are welcome and will catch on quickly. From thigh workouts to “the pretzel,” all areas of the body seem to be worked once you follow their method on the bar.
Known as “Hollywood’s Hottest Workout Class,” Cardio Barre has become an instant favorite for those looking for a low impact workout that delivers exceptional results. The use of light weights with movements on the barre is used to create a dancer’s body by defining muscles and elongating the body. The “no punching, no kicking” workout is also a favorite among celebrities such as Amanda Bynes and Dakota Fanning who have become firm believers in the barre.
The newest edition to the barre world, Pop Physique brings an 80’s inspired element to its Studio City location by incorporating great music and a sprung dance floor to their fitness center. Though the Pop Physique standard includes having a little bit of fun, the workout is intense and includes elements of Pilates, ballet, and cardio in a jam-packed one hour class. If improved flexibility and posture as well as overall body tone aren’t enough to draw you in, some Pop Physiquers will argue that a few Pop classes will lead to a hotter sex life.
