Party Time: Party in the Kitchen 2010

Last night one of Atlanta’s most popular culinary and charitable events took place at the Mason Murer Fine Art gallery. The eighth annual Party in the Kitchen commenced with food, fundraising and dancing to benefit Atlanta-based charity Project Open Hand.

Project Open Hand was started in 1988 when founder Michael Edwards-Pruitt decided to prepare healthy meals for a few of his sick and shut-in friends and neighbors. Twenty-two years later, the mission and purpose of the organization still remains. Every day more than 5,000 meals are prepared to ensure that the hunger and health of senior citizens and those with chronic illnesses are fed nutritious meals regularly.

Their most popular fundraiser, Party in the Kitchen, features Atlanta’s top chefs and well-known restaurants for an evening of delicious food, cocktails and silent auctions to benefit a very worthy cause. This year’s chefs included: Peter Kaiser, James Satterwhite, Kevin Rathbun, Gerry Klaskala and Ricky Burton, who prepared exquisite culinary masterpieces for patrons. Chef Peter Kaiser of the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead even provided one lucky winner a dinner for eight that he would personally prepare in their home.

Dressed in all-white attire, almost 400 guests dined on a selection of foods that could only be described as unforgettable; steak, lobster, pasta, veggies and a collection of desserts that would please anyone with a sweet tooth. In addition to the in-home chef prize, there were also amazing items that were up for bid, such as all-inclusive travel and entertainment packages. As the night continued, everyone danced the night away (and the calories) to the live band that churned out great hits from the past and present.

Party in the Kitchen 2010 was a great success that continues to top itself every year. However, the most important thing is that hundreds of people turned out to benefit a great cause that helps Atlantans live their best lives one hand-delivered meal at a time.

Project Open Hand is located at 176 Ottley Dr. NE, 404.872.6947.
