Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Monique Lhuillier Runway Show

The runway shows seem to be getting more and more impressive. Just when we though we couldn’t possibly be wowed again, Monique Lhuillier comes along and blows everyone else out of the water! She is one of the most prestigious wedding gown designers to date and is known the world over for her breathtakingly stunning and ultra-feminine couture gowns.

Lhuillier’s runway show yesterday afternoon was crawling with celebrities. Olivia Palermo (“The City”), Alexis Bledel (“Gilmore Girls”), Maggie Grace (“Lost”), Perrey Reeves (“Entourage”) and Jessica Lowndes (“90210”) were just a few that were spotted in the front rows. And it’s no wonder so many VIPs showed up for the collection’s debut, each gown its own masterpiece. Lhuillier said the inspiration came to her in a dream — a lush Garden of Eden.

This collection played around with various neckline shapes and strap variations, alternating between strapless, one strap and two straps, each varying in width. The colors cried out “springtime” with elegant shabby chic florals that juxtaposed vibrant reds and verdant greens.

There were gowns made completely of sequins, and gowns that were layers upon layers of draping chiffon, and gowns that fell to the ground in perfectly textured ruffles. And despite the many variations, fabrics, techniques and colors, the fact that the collection remained 100 percent cohesive is truly an extraordinary feat for any designer.

To us, the runway felt like a scene out of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” a fairy land to which only the most beautiful dresses in the world are admitted. And we feel lucky to be let into this magical world, even if it was just for an hour.
