Famous French perfumer Frédéric Malle, who previously consulted for Christian Lacroix, Chaumet and Hermès before establishing his own brand, will be at Barneys New York at Scottsdale Fashion Square on Friday, Oct. 1. Come celebrate the launch of Malle’s new Home Fragrances collection, and allow the perfumer himself to assist you in selecting your ideal personal fragrance.
Between 6 and 8 p.m., enjoy champagne and the opportunity to explore the nine different scents in Malle’s collection for the home. Designed perhaps with the goal of adding a certain je ne sais quoi to every unique personal environment, the fragrances are available in three different diffusion modes: candles, the Fleur Mécanique diffuser or rubber incense.
Malle, dubbed “one of the greatest noses of our time,” comes from a long line of knowing noses, as his mother was an artistic director at the House of Dior for many years, and his grandfather was Serge Heftler-Louiche, a childhood friend of Christian Dior who even later aided the designer in establishing his perfume brand. In 2000, Malle created his own line of fragrances, but not before having worked at Roure Bertrand Dupont and for some of the greatest fashion houses in the industry.
One thing the perfumer is famous for are his signature “smelling columns,” cylindrical glass booths installed in select stores, and which he invented to allow clients to experience a fragrance in, ironically, the most natural state possible, free of outside influences. Individuals sample a scent via a nose-level opening in the booth to better understand how the scent diffuses over time, and Malle says it’s the closest thing to smelling a scent on another person. The nine fragrances for the home include:

- Rubrum Lily
- Russian Nights
- Saint des Saints
- Santal Cardamome
- Un Gardénia la Nuit
